Before and After
Before and after q hotels - PosT Production
Step One - Post Production
Jonathan Cosh has created and mastered a sophisticated lighting technique that enables us to create imagery of the highest quality. Our images are produced by individually lighting different areas of the scene using various light modifiers to carefully control the addition of our flash lighting in that area. This has become known as ‘light painting’ and was started back in the late 1990’s, whilst Jonathan was still working with film. A separate photograph is captured for each lighting variation in readiness for post-production. Once the complex post-production is underway, between 20 and 50 individual images are layered together allowing complete control of the highlights and the shadows to create an enhanced and balanced version of the scene, whilst retaining the original atmosphere of the room. This technique enables us to produce and deliver images that are beautifully lit with a high dynamic range that would not be possible with conventional lighting. As part of this post production process some basic retouching is included.
Step Two - Retouching
An additional part of the post production process to clean up and retouch the final images. The degree of retouching required is largely dependant on the age and condition of the room being photographed. More often a newly refurbished room needs little retouching and is included in our post production process without an additional charge. It is generally either older parts of a hotel or large M&E rooms that require extensive retouching to clean up any damage, clutter, ceilings and light fittings etc. This is often very time consuming and attracts an additional fee. Albeit that the total time this work takes is never fully charged. ie it takes far longer than the hours that are charged.

All of these images have our basic room flash lighting in the ‘before’ image with enhanced’ light painting’ and additional retouching in the ‘after’ image.
